Look what we found in our basement: hotel posters from around 1900! 🗝️
Around 1900, the Schweizerhof, also known as Hotel Suisse, advertised itself as the newest first-class hotel in St. Moritz, with an international clientele and a reputation as a house “favoured by royalty”.
What guests could expect back then:
→ 140 rooms and salons, 175 beds
→ central heating, electric ventilation and an Otis elevator from New York
→ reading, ladies’, music, library and billiard salons
→ daily concerts by an orchestra from La Scala
→ the only house in town with a direct south front
A heated underground passage led to the Villa du Château, formerly Villa Flugi, where families could rent entire apartments: “all the advantages of a villa without the drawbacks of your own household”. Today, it’s our staff house.
The hotel also owned around 40,000 m² of land down to the lake, with two ice rinks, two tennis courts and private paths to the water. ⛸️🎾
More than a century later: same place, same view. Which detail surprised you most? 🤔
